The first TEDxShanghai is scheduled for June 15, 2009 at M1NT Shanghai during the week of the Shanghai International Film Festival. It is being organized by Chinameme under official license by TED.

TEDxShanghai will feature simultaneous translation. Both Chinese and English speakers are welcome to apply. Please note that multiple nominations for the same person won’t influence the speaker selection team in any way.

About speaking at TEDxShanghai

This isn’t a typical conference. The TEDxShanghai audience has exceedingly high expectations of the speakers. Rules for TEDxShanghai speakers include a ban on “selling from the stage” (no plugging your company or organization), and a strict enforcement of the clock.

TEDxShanghai presentations will feature a 10 minute talk . We’ve found that a carefully prepared presentation of this length can have astonishing impact. This format also allows us to fit in more than 20 speakers/performers for the event. Everyone hears every presentation; there are no breakout sessions.

Most speakers stay the entire day of the conference, soaking up the inspiration, and connecting with other fascinating attendees, who range from rocket scientists to concert pianists. In fact, the main reason to come is to join an extraordinary conversation with an extraordinary group of people.

TEDxShanghai will not pay speakers to attend, but we’re committed to creating an experience that’s tremendously fulfilling and beneficial on all sides. Other TEDxShanghai goodies may be announced soon as details are confirmed.

Some TEDxShanghai talks are distributed online. An additional benefit of speaking at TEDxShanghai is that your presentation will be beautifully produced, broadcast-quality video podcasts of the best presentations at TEDxShanghai. Offered free to the public, your talk at TEDxShanghai will prove extraordinarily effective at spreading ideas.

这不是一般的会议。TEDxShanghai的听众对演讲人有着很高的期望值。演讲人的一大禁忌就是“推销产品”（谢绝推销），并且需要对时间绝对敏感。

TEDxShanghai的演讲只有１０分钟。我们发现精心准备过的演讲，只需要１０分钟就可以收到意想不到的效果。我们的这一规定使得聚会能够容纳２０位演讲人。一个接一个，没有中场休息。

大多数演讲人会一直活跃到会议结束，激发灵感，交流互动，在这里，无论是火箭科学家还是音乐演奏家都能找到自己的定位。

TEDxShanghai不会支付演讲费，但是我们承诺我们的聚会能够让在场的每个人获益匪浅。关于TEDxShanghai的其他独到之处，一经证实，我们将随后发布。
